ADDRESS Interview with g ceramic& co.

Define your craft in 3 sentences or less. Bespoke ceramic objects designed for everyday living in Vancouver, BC. #redefiningliving

Describe your creative process. My creative process is influenced by my active lifestyle. I work out, yoga, hike, camp, snowboard and explore the beautiful Pacific Northwest we all get to call home. I find that when I am in tune with my body and my surroundings- inspiration comes naturally and effortlessly. My practise is inspired by late nights watching the moon in a pile of blankets on the beach. It’s inspired by the nostalgia ensued by hiking the Stawamus Chief. It is directly influenced by the awe I encounter when you drive outside the city and can actually see the stars.

Where do you find inspiration when experiencing a creative block? I get my blood pumping! I go for a run, or an intense hot yoga session. Or for a hike // hit the slopes whether permitting. I find that if you try too hard, it comes out forced. I love to let nature guide me, and ask myself “What do I love?”

What advice would you give to young designers / makers / artists / creatives aspiring to make it in their field? Don’t stop. Even when you think you’ve got nothing left. Even when everyone tells you not to… Never give up. You have to push yourself -step outside the box. If something doesn’t work, adjust. A lot of people run into issues and they throw their hands up and say “that’s it!” You have to persevere, and be adaptable. And stay true to what’s in your heart.

What’s your dream project? I desire to design a massive ceramic chandelier installation in the front foyer of a hotel or restaurant. Or potentially down a long hallway, so as you walk under them you can look up into the pendants.

What art / design trends are you excited about? Gold! And simple, well made objects.
