ADDRESS Interview with Zoë Pawlak.

Define your craft in 3 sentences or less. I am a painter and product designer. I create original oil paintings and drawings for clients, have designed two rug lines and am presently working on various creative projects both as a studio and in collaboration with other producers.

Describe your creative process. I make paintings or draw daily. My day beings with meetings to coffee, prayer, stretching and set my staff up for the day. I create images from both my imagination and sourced imagery.

Where do you find inspiration when experiencing a creative block? I put on music that I love. This unblocks me and gets me moving, which is critical to making fluid, quality work.

What advice would you give to young designers / makers / artists / creatives aspiring to make it in their field? Work hard and follow your intuition. You are special just because you are a unique soul. Don’t try to be something you are not. You do you.

What’s your dream project? I dream of seeing my rugs on massive floors with the light flooding them. Working in collaboration with anyone I admire and respect and who currently seems ‘out of reach’ would be a dream. Collaboration, at its best, allows each person to bring high-level craftsmanship to the table and create something totally new. That’s the dream.

What art / design trends are you excited about? I am loving coloured mirrors. I like work that feels more luxe, but is also honest and is not pretentious.
