ADDRESS Interview with Birch & Grey.
Define your craft in 3 sentences or less. Our craft ranges from custom furniture to our own designed small manufactured goods. We enjoy mixing materials and popping colour and clean lines into our work.
Describe your creative process. Our process is one of playfulness and learning. Whether that is with new materials, colours or approach. For us you have to have fun doing what you love. That gives the client and us the best result.
Where do you find inspiration when experiencing a creative block? Creative blocks happen lots. So do metal blocks and physical blocks. We find inspiration from being in our space and just making shit. Make it and see if it works. If not make something else. Also from other artists in and out of design. Inspiration also is inspired by functionality and need to pay the bills.
What advice would you give to young designers / makers / artists / creatives aspiring to make it in their field? Make shit. Make Tons of it. Make things that you don’t finish. make things that are hard to make and stretch your skills and tool capability. Tools don’t make your execution better time making things does.
What’s your dream project? Dream project: I am doing it, every day showing up. It’s evolving constantly. We want to design, build, outfit would a multi dwelling unit with work space/retail on the main floor.
What art / design trends are you excited about? Design trend of Memphis, 1960’s decor… colour that make us tickled pink. Hot pink…
