ADDRESS Interview with Michael Host.
Define your craft in 3 sentences or less. Organic, original, Westcoast modern. A piece of outside, inside.
Describe your creative process. A large part of my creative process is simply walking through the forest and searching for inspirational material. Quite often a piece will virtually design itself in place, still in the dirt.
Where do you find inspiration when experiencing a creative block? Anywhere with forests and open ocean, mainly the Westcoast of Vancouver island.
What advice would you give to young designers / makers / artists / creatives aspiring to make it in their field? Start small, dream big. Stick to your guns and refine your ideas. Be vigilant, stay focused.
What’s your dream project? Large scale installations using old growth material. I would like to share the feeling I get from these old trees.
